Question, Shelagh...

Where do you have your bookmarks printed?

Hi Rhett,

I load the jpeg files into word and print the bookmarks on card. You can laminate the bookmarks to make them last longer.

For a more professional look you could try these:

https://www.printingforless.com/cardsbookmarks.html

If you buy 500 bookmarks from 48hour print it will only cost $85 (17c per bookmark!)

http://www.48hourprint.com/bookmark-printing.html

You can design your own bookmarks online at iprint. 500 bookmarks will only cost $74.99 (15c per bookmark!)

If you click on the "add your own design here" at the bottom of the page, a design template will open. At the top, on the navigation bar, you will see a link to pricing:

I created bookmarks in Word using a bookmark template. It included the cutting marks like the big printers use. Printed them off on a good colour printer and then used a paper cutter that is normally used for scrapbooking/mat making (so that things were dead straight) and my sister and I had a paper cutting party. It was crazy busy, but satisfying, and cost very little but they looked professionally done (my daughter created the image using photoshop).
I actually did a couple of versions; one had an annoucenment about the up coming book reading that I dropped off at the bookstore where I did my launch (an independent bookseller) who graciously included them in people's shopping bags. I also sent them and handed them out like a business card prior to the launch. The second set were a more traditional book cover and advert bookmark. I have no idea how many books they helped me sell, but they did help me to introduce and market myself confidently!

How about laminating? Dop the print shops offer the service? If you do your own, is there an easy way to laminate them? I am just thinking toward making them last for the user.

Some print shops will laminate, although it is pricey and they charge by the square foot around here. I did not laminate, although did punch a hole and put a neat looking little tassel through some of them. Others we printed on glossy photo paper, which looked really nice.
