| Just to let you know that I’ll be absent for a spell. By the time all the applause has stopped, I’ll be back.
Tomorrow morning I will be traveling to the land of the great “PX.” I don’t expect to spend much time online. My absence from the forum should not be viewed as my having died, although one can never rule that out. During our concert last night where I sang the solo part of “Greensleeves” in both English and a German, I thought I might die, but since that didn’t occur perhaps my may continue.

| Best wishes on your journey Abe. I love Greensleeves, and I'm glad it didn't kill you. It'd be a shame to have another artist suffering for their art. _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |

| The land of the great "PX" meant post exchange. It was what we troops stationed abroad called America.
I arrived in Virginia to some stormy weather. The day after I arrived the power went out and only just came back on line a few hours ago. Unusually high temperatures (in the high 90's) for this time of year added to the problems. In the country, without power, means that there is no water being pumped. No showers, buying water to drink, using water from the rain barrel to flush. Makes those good old days not looking so good. No TV meant I didn't hear all the latest about the elections but did read it in the papers. The PC was also out of service. I jumped online to write this post and hope that I can get back on line again to read what is happening with you all.

| Last summer we were troubled by rambunctious hurricane winds (hurrican Noel) and lost power for nearly 24 hours. I understand why so many folks out here own a generator for back up, although was stunned to find out what it would cost to get one that will power the house, because of those challenges that you describe Abe. A generator is on my shopping list, along with some nifty power surge gadget that attaches at the main power intake to avoid any damage to the appliances and so on. Hopefully there are no other wrenches in your trip and everything now if mostly fun and games Abe. Take care. _________________ Pam Robertson http://andthebandplayedonmylawn.blogspot.com |

Thanks for the translation, Abe! I knew about 'post exchange' but was unaware of the US being called that! Have to laugh at your hardship! We often lose power out here--high winds and other calamities that cross the lines. A few years back we were without power or phones for two weeks due to an ice storm. We are far out enough to be set up for emergencies. We have an 80 gallon holding tank for the well water which makes it okay to flush, make coffee, etc. Just no showers, unless we kick the generator on, and then its cold water! But it is rather like a small vacation when that happens, no phone calls and bring out the paper plates! That is when we do the most reading, even if we have to use the hurricane lanterns and the ones we have for camping--butane and kerosene. _________________ Zada Connaway Mother's Journals: parts 1, 2 and 3 ISBN # 1-4241-6969-0

| Sue,
Are you in Wisconsin? We are up near Minocqua and electricity goes out here often.
And usually when the electricity goes off it is usually because of high winds and then trees come down in our woods, which happened the other day, of course falling right across the driveway.
So the chain saws come out and if anyone ever figures out how to make fuel from all these downed 100 foot trees in the woods here, we'll have no further fuel problems.
