Hi everyone,

I've just been offered a contract with New Concepts Publishing. They are an e-book publisher, and whilst not my first choice, they are willing to publish my latest manuscript. I wonder if anyone had any dealings with them and what their opinion is.

They don't pay an advance, only 25% Royalties on sales from their website.

I doubt you will find ANY eBook publisher who would pay advances.

What I always wonder about people publishing eBooks off a site is...why not just create one's own eBook and sell it off your own site and keep 100%?

Pretty much a free thing to produce.

Of course, you get their shoppers and such, but still...

Hi Jenny,

I checked out the FAQs on the website and saw that the reason they state that they do not offer an advance is because they do print books as well as sell ebooks. If the book does well it goes into print. Since they can't predict which books will go into print, they don't offer an advance. I doubt they will in the foreseeable future.

What an eye-opener, Shelagh. I've known two writers with NCP, one very unhappy, the other satisfied, liked the exposure on Fictionwise. Guess it depends on the writer.

But no matter your decision, Jenny, congratulations on the contract!

From what Shelagh said, it sounds like it should be OK, Jenny.

Jenny, congratulations. We don't hear much from you, but when we do, it is usually positive.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the input. I'me not going to rush into this - partly because I'm not at home at present, but on holiday in Devon in south west England.

Abe, you haven't heard much from me lately because a) I've been in Holland for a week; home for 10 days; and now in Devon. I've also been adding 17,000 words to my manuscript AND plotting out my next book, Ring of Lies. Hopefully, when I get home next Friday, you'll see more of me here on the Forum. sunny

Ring of Lies is an excellent title, Jenny. Very intriguing.

Hi Brenda,

The premise is a young widow finds her marriage was based on lies - her husband, an international accountant, has not only embezzled his clients, purchased a beach house on the Florida Gulf Coast, but also had an affair with her sister.

Grace, his wife, sets out to find out the truth behind his seemingly accidental death - a journey that takes her from a sleepy Cotswold village here in the Uk, to the steamy heat of a Florida summer - hence the title "Ring of Lies."

Congratulations, Jenny. You have come up with a great plot and wonderful title. The traveling doesn't sound too bad, either.
