Just one more reason to keep writing and improving your technique!

Definitely food for thought. Sounds like one should crank out numerous novels to be held back, then submitted one a yeaer to satisfy the criteria. I should think quality over quantity, but the almighty dollar is a good motivator!

What an...interesting...quandry to have! To write and be at the beck and call of the publishing companies and your fans, or work on quality and lose their interest. Somehow I think that you can have both, and that'll be one of the things that differentiates one good prolific writer from another slower and equally good writer. Working with multiple deadlines does tend to make one a better writer (well, me anyway!).
If I was in that kind of demand, I'm pretty certain I'd be burning the midnight oil and taking advantage of it before being passed over for a replacement, at least until my retirement fund was pleasantly plumped and my future taken care of.
I am starting to think more like a serial writer. I think that the short story that I am putting together for the anthology is just about right to launch a series of stories...just have to bring it all nicely together and then make some decisions. Very Happy

I do better if I am accountable to someone else, such as a deadline where my work has to be in somone else's hands. I get more accomplished that way, then on my own.

Sue, I'm with you. Unfortunately I find myself distracted too often and tied up with other things. If I had a deadline, I would work much harder.

I recently ordered a previously unpublished book by Madeleine L'Engle. She is my favorite author. Her most famous book is "A Wrinkle in Time" for children, but she has also written many fiction and nonfiction works of art. The newest book had been written for her children, a book just special for them, which they have decided to publish in their mother's honor after her death.

What a lovely idea. Writing something special for special someones! Not worrying about that publishing process all the time and pleasing, just writing out of love. I need to do that as well as work on publication. I have had some good responses lately, although no contracts, and need to continue, but still need to write out of love of writing.

Quality trumps whatever the publishers ask for. They're the tail and writers are the tale (as well as the dog).

On the other hand, if you're James Cameron, you simply plot the thing out and let somebody else finish it, creating what the publisher calls "a James Cameron Family Pageturner."

P.S. Jenny, if you don't mind my asking, how does one become a sponsor here?

Hi Malcolm,

I'll save Jenny's blushes. Jenny very kndly paid for space on the gallery for book covers. The forum is only allowed 5mb of space and I had to delete photos in personal albums to accomodate more book covers until Jenny made a donation. The money donated buys tokens that can be used for improving the forum. A bit like green shield stamps! LOL!

In case anyone is unsure about personal albums: there's plenty space so feel free to upload your photos. Very Happy

Wow, good for you, Jenny. As soon as I get that big movie contract, I'll send over a box of cash myself.

Jenny doesn't say much but her actions speak loud.

Yes, Pol, that is the way for me too. I have a husband who wants attention. I wonder why? I have too many irons in the fire. I always have. This distracts from the writing. It doesn't help that I don't have anyone to hand anything off to, including cooking and housework. But, I just keep plugging away! Thanks for letting me know there are others out there like me. *grin*
