What's a UP? Is that where a Yooper lives, 'cause now I'm lost completely.

It's the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (the part of the state north of the Mackinac Bridge). Crystal Falls is in the southwestern part of the peninsula.

I'm in the process of reading a book by a German correspondent to the Middle East for 25 years, who has revealed some startling information.
About Iraq, he states that Bush wanted the oil. Iraqi oil had been the possession of Britain until the oil was nationalized by Iraq thus ending the UK's rights in 1972. Tony Blair jumped on board with Bush so the UK could claim part of that oil. Together, they decided to include Russia so they would not veto any resolution concerning an Iraqi invasion.
There is much more concerning events leading up to the war. What I find also of interest concerning the Gulf war, was that Kuwait had dug a tunnel to tap Iraqi oil. It was just one of the reasons causing Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait.

The relationship the US had with Iraq/Saddam Hussein, details how Saddam was used to further America's objectives in Iran. Rumsfeld was a frequent visitor with Saddam Hussein. Getting Saddam executed was important to shut him up - to keep him from talking.

How can one put America first by continuing the war in Iraq? What will we win if we are determined to stay until we win?

We started a war under false pretenses to take out WDM’s. When we discovered that they didn’t exist, did we stop? No. We then decided to take out their leader. We saw him hanged but did we leave? No. We placed our country in the worst debt in the history of America. We caused thousands of lives to be lost. How can we put America first by pouring more money down the drain? How can we put America first by seeing more of our young men and women killed? To say that progress is being made because there are fewer casualties is callous. The fact is that the total number of casualties of the war continues to rise. How many more lives will be sacrificed until victory is proclaimed?
Bush proclaimed victory early in the war. So why didn’t we stop? The country of Iraq is Islam and will remain Islam. Is trying to force our ideology on someone democratic? How much more double-talk will we endure? How much more warrior talk will it take to plunge us in to another cold war? The spark has been ignited.
We need someone to put out the fires, not prolong them or start new ones.
