Princess Helispeta wanted to marry well... but not THIS well.

Excerpt.
Helispeta wakes up after her marriage has been thoroughly consummated, and discovers that she is in the WRONG god's bed.

“You’re well served, my dear.” An adored, deep masculine voice taunted, not quite kindly, from somewhere close, but not in bed beside her.

So she wasn’t alone.

Helispeta opened her eyes, and blinked at the unwelcome bright whiteness around her. She was in a square bed, draped on all four sides...like being inside an airy tetrahedron.

“Oh, royally,” she agreed. “Was that a stud-farm joke, Devoron?” she flirted bravely, despite her headache, and other deeper aches.

Suddenly, his tanned, long fingered hands bunched the net-like curtains on her right, and he stood over her, unsmiling. His eyes smoldered dark gray-blue, as unforgiving as the jagged heart-of-stone they resembled in hue. If it was possible, the room got brighter, but he was a Great Djinn, and third in line to the Tiger throne. Protocol forbade her to shut her eyes as long as it pleased him to glare at her.

“Was giving me the rut-rage your idea, or Prince Djetthro’s?”

He knew.

“Oh dear,” she said. “Did we have the rut-rage? I do not understand...I took my temperature so carefully. I really thought—”

He watched her skeptically. She felt like a squirming insect impaled on a carefully cruel boy’s fighting dagger, but there was no going back.

“It must have been the excitement that brought my fertile time on…early.”

Of course it was no such thing. She’d decided to make absolutely sure that Devoron would go through with the mating. After all, she was a virgin, so it wasn’t as if she was cheating him of anything. He didn’t need to be in his right mind to be sure of her virginity.

He sat sideways on the bed. As she held her breath, he reached over and rested the heel of his hand on the hot place between her legs, where she ached and throbbed...for cool salve and time to recover.

“Little fool,” he said. “I could have hurt you. If you had any idea how long I’ve been abstinent, you would not have set foot in my palace until your rut-rageous time was well past. Were we really in such a hurry?”

Your palace? YOUR palace?

The white world darkened suddenly. Helispeta closed her eyes against the terrible dizziness she felt. Her wrists prickled. There was a fizzing all over her scalp.

“By the way, my love,” he drawled, leaning over her menacingly, “you cannot continue to call me Devoron in public...or in private.”

“What must I call you?” Helispeta whispered.

“Your Majesty on formal occasions, Lord of My Life for affectionate moments, Sire once your first pregnancy has been announced.” His thin lips twisted into a sardonic grin. “My Love in bed.”

“You’re not Devoron,” she said numbly.

“How very perspicacious of you, my love. No. I am not Devoron.”

FANTASTIC! Short though it may be, Rowena Cherry’s MATING NET moves at her trademark “warp” speed, hurling the reader deeper into her universe of political machinations and Royal Skullduggery.
~Brenda Clark, www.MystiqueBooks.com

FIVE STARS. Rowena Cherry is one of the best sub-genre writers due to her skill at placing the heroic characters in impossible scenarios as she has with the delightful MATING NET.
~Harriet Klausner, AFFAIRE DE COEUR

It's a racy, razor edge of a tale, which will leave you amazed at how she does so much with so few pages.
~Deborah MacGillivray, author of A RESTLESS KNIGHT
