I love cheese on just about anything - macaroni, broccoli and cauliflower...but hesitate putting cheese sauce on salad. These days I am more into cucumber dill, which, not surpiringly is making my family crazy. Can you have too much of a good thing Shocked ?

No, Abe, just a little oil and vinegar!! Even cheesey dressing would be better than half a cheese cake, or other goodies! Hmmm ... I wonder if I have the ingredients on hand?

I'm going to try the YA route. One of my writer friends here in town has had two YA fiction novels picked up for publication. He asked me to write reviews for both. I was intrigued by the depth of the plotlines, characterizations, etc. As detailed and good as adult fiction, but not quite as long.

A few nights aftewards, I had a vivid dream about the next book I should write. It is a different path than I have been on; but after seven novels, I am ready for the change of pace.

Why not try it?

I'm trying to diet yet again, so I'm not even looking at the posts about food. And of course, what am I thinking about? Peanut M&Ms. Cheeseburgers. scheech....

Several years ago my granddaughter handed Blood and Chocolate to me and suggested I read it. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's a YA horror. She loved it and so did I.

So there's a market out there.

You bet Rhett! I think sometimes people are under the illusion that writing for young adults must be easier, but I don't think that the case. You have to be good, deep and quick to get their attention and hold it there. They are not so kind as adults who will suffer through something awful to the end just to what happens (not that I do that suffering thing either; I just skip to the end! har har!).
And in deference to Brenda, no food here. Always have to support our fellow dieters...actually I heard a nutritioninst on the radio the other day talking about cravings. He had it narrowed down to which minerals our bodies lack that make us crave certain things and it was really interesting. Of course, I must have gotten hungry and eaten the note because now I cannot find it...ah here it is. Don't be put off by his good looks and very buff physique. I actually sent him an email after the radio program and got a personal response. http://www.fatwars.com/

Good for you, Pam. So you're dieting too? Isn't it horrible? My mother could eat anything she wanted and never gained an ounce. Just not fair.

I'll take a look at fatwars.com.

Diet is a 4 letter word!! Ugh! I gave up on diets long ago. Now I just try to eat healthy.

Back to the YA topic--I think writing for the very young would be easy, and the young adults much harder. I am just too out of touch with the teen and tween agers to be able to write what might appeal to them. It would need to be 'G' rated and yet edgy enough to hold their attention. Sheesh!

The world has seemingly moved on culturally since I was that age. Things that were taboo when I was young are common place today. Sex and nudity on tv is just one example! I wouldn't know where to begin or how far to go.

I will probably give the YA audience a shot. I have two projects underway and one in the offing, so it'll be number four on the to do list.

Dieting is terrible. I decided long ago that I wouldn't diet. I try to eat healthy and often overeat. But I have my own discipline. I eat what I want but then work it off. The more I eat, the harder I have to work to get rid of the excess calories. So it becomes a battle of the will. Should I have that extra piece of whatever? Am I willing to walk an extra mile to get it off?
This has worked for me. I'm not fat but with age it gets harder to do the working off part. Aches and pains accompany it. scratch

Oh Abe. I think we're all off topic when we discuss anything fun. And eating is fun. I love food and I just discovered a place that makes old-fashioned cheeseburgers the way I remember from years ago. Of course I've been hanging out there so much I might as well bring a sleeping bag.

But, I'm lax in working it off, so I have to give up the cheeseburgers and everything else I like. At least for now.

So now, it's back to dieting. While I love food, I hate tight-fitting clothes.

Sad thing is...since my medical misadventures of last year, I can't eat my chili cheese fries or hot wings. Geez...

I can, however, still eat chocolate. Life is good. Very Happy

And, it did come in handy; having a few extra pounds for my body to use while I couldn't eat a whole lot.

I'm tired of the whole notion of dieting, too. If I just don't eat a big, heavy meal in the evening, I can do okay.

And, life is to dadgum short not to enjoy your food.

Hey...the only good reason to veer off-topic is food.

You're so right, Rhett. I'm paying for those cheeseburgers in all ways, so have to get back on some sort of eating plan. And that means no chili dogs either, darn.

Speaking of hot wings, do they have a WingStop near you? One recently opened about a half hour from me and I love it. Absolutely the best I've ever had:

http://www.wingstop.com/

Here I go again. With my stomach churning lately, I need a glass of cornbread and buttermilk.

Hey it's okay to be off topic in a thread that I start...that's just the nature of chit chat and frankly, since writing and eating take up a lot of my energy, I think it's okay. I just try not to eat while writing because it makes a mess of my keyboard.
My worst eating times are after supper and as the evening stretches out before me with the temptation of snacks. The best thing for me to stop that is to knit or crochet, since it's very hard to coordinate and makes a mess of the yarn...and, although I don't recommend walking and knitting at the same time (it's much harder than walking and chewing gum at the same time) it's a hobby that can appeal to guys and gals. Really. Very Happy
