PostSubject: Two rejections in one day.   Wed Jun 04, 2008 11:41 am

How much can a girl take!

One by post which I've been waiting for a few months (I thought no news was supossed to be good news)
And one by email.

That's eleven rejections to date.

I waited until my 30th rejection before Self Publishing In Times of Violence, which has gone on to be very popular.

I really don't want to SP Lawless Justice as it had so much promise and deserves a bigger audience than I can provide.

My question to you, is when do you stop submitting? Do you have a target?

Aw Karina what a disappointment! My thoughts are with you along with hopes for better things and a nice big chocolate cake.
When to stop submitting...well, I bet this question is going to inspire a raft of answers, but mine is never. Never quit. Continue to be curious, to learn and grow as an author.
I would perhaps review what my submission info looks like; the construct of my query letter, how it is arranged, what makes it, and my book stand out from the next one, but I think it's early days yet to think about the SP route since you're gaining in name and credibility as a writer.
That's my two cents worth. :pirat:

Pam is right, Karina, never quit. Just get up and start again like the little guy in the picture.
I always suggest the same thing, try to talk with an agent in your field face to face. As you live in Greece, that could be a helluva problem. Try Pam's advice about the letter you send out and never use e-mail. It's a tough business.

Sorry to hear about the rejections. They sort of take the sunshine out of the day, especially if one had an especially positive feeling about a particular query.

I got and fired an agent for "The Sun Singer" in 1983, queried about 70 publishers, put the MS on the shelf, took it out again in 2001, queried more agents/publishers for a year, then finally went the POD route. That took 20 years.

My advice: don't wait quite that long. Crying or Very sad

I hope your next bit of news is good news.

Malcolm

Thanks for the encouragent. I need to hear/see that lol.

I'm not ready to quit, not just yet. I'll send some more out next winter and we'll see.

My book should stand out among the other submissions because there is nothing like it on the shelfs. I think that's my problem. Agents are looking for books that fall into the best seller genre, which at the moment is CSI crime thrillers. First it was then Chick Lit and then Fantasy. They are not willing to take a chance on a unknown genre, which might not be popular. Myself and hundreds of my readers disagree.

Thanks for the pic, Dick, it made me laugh.

Why don't you post the first few paragraphs of your first chapter and we'll take a look and perhaps offer suggestions. May help and it may not, but chances are other eyes may see something you missed, or offer something a little different.

As the forum is for all ages, I can't post any pages because of the content.

Karina,

I moved your poem to the poetry board. It is an inspired poem!
